File:Flag of Pennsylvania (1918).png[edit]

This image is ripped from a ebay listing as seen in the source, there is no implication that the image is in the public domain and there is no proof the seller released as such either, the flags design maybe public domain but the photograph is not. 204.248.114.252 01:19, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

 Keep See Template:PD-art. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 01:31, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete Additionally, its usage on Wikipedia appears to be an attempt to demonstrate some older depictions of the flag used a white festoon for the motto instead of red. In those contexts, an original vector file, or even an edit of the public domain Commons vector file currently used on the same pages, would serve this purpose as well or better. Files in Category:Obenberger (botanical illustrator)[edit]

These illustrations are taken from a book published in 1914, and they were restored today by me (Public Domain Day 2024), since the book is credited to Karel Domin (d. 1953). They are partially or entirely authored by "Obenberger", a botanical illustrator from Prague. Since the death date is unknown, these one should be undeleted in 2035 (PD-old-assumed), unless additional data on author is found.

Possible copyvio: The model is marked as the author CoffeeEngineer (talk) 12:28, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think we might want to assume good faith and take it that the subject of the image took a selfie. I did some googling and came across this tweet which indicates the subject of the image Gabbi Tuft was/is interested in having an accurate image of themselves on Wikipedia. It's high plausible them took an image of themselves specifically to improve their own Wikipedia article. The subject seems to also be operating this flickr account where they're uploading selfies of themselves under a public domain license.
It seems more likely to me that the subject is actively releasing freely licensed images into the world than this being a copyright violation. CeltBrowne (talk) 11:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not sure on this one, as the author is marked as Gabrielle Tuft, not Gabbi, but I do not see any mention of this exact name in the encyclopedia or on the internet. I am very conflicted on if the upload is legit or not. CoffeeEngineer (talk) 20:22, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not sure on this one, as the author is marked as Gabrielle Tuft, not Gabbi
File:Gabbi Tuft.jpg is an upload from the flickr account I mentioned. The caption of that flickr post is as follows:
Gabbi Tuft, former WWE superstar Tyler Reks, founder of Body Spartan. Gabrielle “Gabbi” Alon Tuft is seen here with no filters, no photo edits, and no makeup. Currently, she still awaiting her facial feminization surgery and GRS.
It seems to me that the subject considers "Gabrielle Alon Tuft" to be their legal or formal name, and "Gabbi" to be their informal or pet name. That caption has some very specific personal information that leads me to believe it's the subject themselves writing it.
While it is possible this could be some hyperactive fan doing this, I find it more plausible (especially because of the tweet stating they were unhappy with imagery on Wikipedia) that the subject is releasing freely available photos in order to improve their Wikipedia article and promote themselves. Are we sure the Sanggar Sinar Budaya Group gave its permission for the use of the music?

CoffeeEngineer (talk) 14:36, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, Sanggar Sinar Budaya Group has given permission. This music came from a WMF grant we're working on. Of course, Sanggar Sinar Budaya Group has received appreciation and authorized us to upload it on Wikimedia Commons. Astari28 (talk) 23:40, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe an OTSR would be good to clarify the situation. What do you think? CoffeeEngineer (talk) 19:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fine, I'll take care of it. Thank you for your advice. However, it would be best to explain what you mean or be able to provide a link, because not all volunteers are as knowledgeable as you, to be fair and educational. Thanks. Astari28 (talk) 03:13, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You are totally right. It is really noy right from my side, here it is: Commons:Volunteer Response Team. The instructions are on the page. Please let me know if you need any help. CoffeeEngineer (talk) 17:14, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
After discussing this with the original owner of the sound, he will upload his own work. Please help to remove it, thank you. Astari28 (talk) 08:50, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for your anwer, I will let an administrator close the request. CoffeeEngineer (talk) 19:36, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Asia Harvest maps[edit]

These maps are COM:CV, and in any case they are based on a highly biased source, Asia Harvest, which is an American Christian missionary organisation, and not on data from scientific surveys. Asia Harvest is among the primary sources used by a network of other sources whose reliability was questioned in October 2022 and January 2023 on the English Wikipedia (cf. here), and which are now listed among the perennial sources. No COM:EV. --Æo (talk) 16:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Firstly, about COM:CV, it clearly states that they're under the Open Database License. In fact, check out this link —http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright— on the source sites, to quote from there, "Our documentation is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 license (CC BY-SA 2.0)." Secondly, the result of this discussion ended in "no consensus". As data of underground and house church Christians from official sources are non-existent, at least these maps are able to give people an idea of how many of them are there in that country. Take into account that in this case, no source can be 100% reliable due to the lack of official survey, which is to say, there's no ultimate authority. Uriel1022 (talk) 19:20, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Regardless of the source (whose reliability is questionable, but this is probably not the appropriate place to discuss this matter), OpenStreetMap is the software through which Asia Harvest's images have been created. The copyright license (Open Database License) of OpenStreetMap applies to the software and to its geographic materials alone, not to the images as created and published by Asia Harvest on their website and in their books (both of which are not free or under any CC license, they are "all rights reserved"). What you claim would be like saying that if I write a text with Microsoft Word, the distribution license of Microsoft Word and its materials and tools applies to my text as well. Also note that the Mission Infobank from which you have taken the maps is a website whose content is uploaded by users; its copyright note states: "The Mission Infobank hosts content either created by LightSys or provided by other site contributors. We earnestly desire that all content on the Mission Infobank comply with applicable copyright laws, but LightSys does not have the resources to police the copyright compliance of site content provided by other site contributors, so we trust those contributors to only submit material that can be legally included on the Mission Infobank.". Those maps have likely been taken from the Asia Harvest website and uploaded on Mission Infobank. They are therefore infringing the copyright of the original authors.
