Image allegedly from 1925 claimed to be "own work". This was most likely taken from some website which is no longer online, as neither Google Lens nor TinEye can find it. COM:PCP. —holly {chat} 02:50, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Holly. I own this photograph. It’s my great grandfather. I can find a link online or I can upload it to another site. But please do not delete it. I submit it to the public domain. It’s fine with me. 2603:8000:7E00:78C3:F44F:71A4:1D2E:40FE 03:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I'll take your word for it. Could you possibly scan it again at a larger size and save it as a JPG this time? An image this small and in GIF format is usually cause for suspicion. Thanks! 16:57, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Category:Music of the Brazilian Army[edit]
Ongoing editorial dispute over whether these files should have a separate category or stay in Category:Army of Brazil (presumably forever?). Nominated for speedy deletion by Tm, who wants it gone. I don't want it gone, but as I've already behaved poorly with reversions, I'm moving this into a deletion request for a third-party opinion. I believe the category is perfectly reasonable, it helps diffuse a category with a very wide scope, has a viable subcategory (Category:Military bands of the Brazilian Army) and has precedents such as Category:Music of the United States Army and Category:Music of the United States Navy. Serraria (talk) 03:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Besides the subcategory with 44 files, the following files would be included in this category:
- File:Song of the Brazilian Army.ogg
- File:Canção do Exército (1951).ogg
- File:"Canção do Exército", performed by the United States Navy Band.wav
- File:"Canção do Exército", performed by the United States Navy Band.oga
- File:"Canção do Exército", performed by the United States Navy Band.flac
- File:Canção da Escola de Sargentos das Armas - ESA.ogg
- File:Canção da Engenharia.ogg
- File:Canção da 3 Cia E Cmb Mec.jpg
Several are overcategorized by their presence in Category:Army of Brazil, which also suffers from overcategorization in general. Serraria (talk) 12:56, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

- Picture * File:Eröffnungszug U-Bahnhof Museumsinsel.jpg was shot during an offical press ceremony by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), including an accreditation process. Deleted: per nomination. The proposal to accept photos inside train stations in Germany has not been accepted, per https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump/Proposals/Archive/2023/06#Allow_photos_taken_inside_of_train_stations_or_tunnels_in_Germany . It was finalized after this DR was started. So regrettably, these photos have to be deleted. --Ellywa (talk) 20:53, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

- I am the original uploader of the file. The file is a screenshot of the YouTube video under a Creative Commons license. The screenshot contains a poster for one of the Egyptian Parliament’s election committees in 2020.
The poster bears:
▶ the electoral committee number (185) and other information for guidance to citizens. ▶ the logo of the National Elections Authority in Egypt ▶ the flag of the Arab Republic of Egypt. ▶ the logo of the Beheira Governorate is “one of the governorates of Egypt” ▶ a picture of the President of Egypt..
- The file is used exclusively in the articles of the free encyclopedia on the Egyptian parliamentary elections for the purpose of clarifying indicative data that was hanging on the wall in one of the electoral committees in Egypt in 2020 in the Beheira Governorate in Egypt.
The file does NOT have any focus on one of the elements separately from the rest of the elements on the instructional poster.

If I see it correctly, the image was extracted somewhere around 0:21 of the video (I can't link it here due to the spam filter so here's a screenshot), which is a piece of 3D art sculpture (notice that the foot extendes out of the rectangle frame of the rest). This theory is likely (not 100% certainty but over 70%) supported by this article which uses "黄永玉像" (the word 像 refers to a sculpture or statue, for example 自由女神像 is Statue of Liberty). There is no freedom of panorama in Ukraine and the photo violate painter copyright. There is no information on the dating or authorship of the original painting, so there is no confirmation whether this painting corresponds to PD-Art. Derivatives of work - photo non-free painting. Seva Seva (talk) 23:17, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Keep. This is a 17th Century portrait, by an unknown painter, and is housed at the Barvinkove Museum of Regional Ethnography. It was discovered by Ukrainian ethnographer Ivan Plys in the Poltava region in the 1950s. See reference from the Kharkive Regional Library publication:[1] Note: I have updated the corrected information on the page. --Very trivial (talk) 01:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- I also thought so at first. But I did not find any source that would date this particular image or something similar to the 17th century. The fact is that portraits of the 17th century in Ukraine are a great rarity. So I have doubts about the above for two reasons:
- there is no confirmation that the portrait is dated to the 17th century. Such portraits usually attract the attention of iconographers and this is a rather popular direction of Ukrainian historical science (see [2][3][4][5] and others). In addition, the portrait itself is not similar to the works of artists in the then Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Category:17th-century portrait paintings from Poland). This especially applies to clothes (see examples of baroque portraits in the "Sarmatism" style: Category:Sarmatian portraits);
- the founder and first director of the above-mentioned museum is the artist Ivan Plys (1906-1982), so this image may well be a reproduction (in the publication of the regional library you cited on pages 38-39 there is a biography of Plys, where it is said that he made many paintings of his hometown).
- In any case, these are all just hypotheses. That this image is a 17th century portrait is also a hypothesis. Have you found any dating of this image in authoritative sources? Seva Seva (talk) 14:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- No, it is only your assertion that "this image is a 17th century portrait is a hypothesis" — an assertion is not a a fact. If your hypothesis is correct, at the very best, and with reservations, it might be said that "one academic/some academics" doubt the authenticity of this portrait as being from the 17th Century. And this would only be, after a similar scholarly paper to the ones you already referred to, was written specifically about this portrait.
- I would suggest that the statements made by the museum that houses the portrait, and the Kharkiv library is a higher standard of "proof" than what most of the images on Commons have... That these are not scholarly substantiated statements, that is true, but I don't believe that Commons requires such a high standard of proof (ie an academic paper discussing the actual image) for every image...
- Thanks for the links to the documents — they are certainly interesting, and this area of investigation is sadly neglected. Personally, I do wish that more people (especially with an academic background) would devote their knowledge and efforts to writing more articles about aspects of Ukrainian art - this subject is very poorly covered. --Very trivial (talk) 23:54, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- I have no doubt that Plys found a 17th century portrait. I doubt this photo is a photo of 17th century portrait. I meant that I couldn't find a portrait that resembled this file in the library edition mentioned above. It says simply, quote: "In the 1950s, I. Plys was find in Poltava, where he was on a business trip, an old portrait of the Cossack Ivan Barvinok by an unknown artist of the 17th century. Since then, the museum has had an image of the city's founder." (page 38). I specify my doubt:
- Museums often exhibit not the original, but a copy (in the link you provided to the museum’s Facebook page[2] there are:
- copies of the works of Serhii Vasylkivskyi, the originals of which are obviously not in the local history museum of a small town[3];
- a one of copy of Bohdan Khmelnytsky portrait, the original of which located in Moscow[4];
- the painting "The Cossack Went to War", the original of which is kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine[5], etc.
- Plys was an painter, so he could make a copy for a museum. Іn the aforementioned article it is written: "Plys as artist deserves special attention. In the work of Ivan Oleksiiovych, two themes prevailed. The first is the theme of the Cossack past of the Barvinkove region. The Zaporizhia antiquity beckoned, drew him like a magnet. Ivan Plys felt himself a guardian of history, created images of glorious ancestors, so that the descendants do not forget ancestors." (also page 38),
- I have not found a source where this image (File:IvanBarvinokOtamanOst.jpg) is signed "Portrait of the 17th century".

- Yes, I take your point. Perhaps it would be better to directly contact the museum for clarification, though, being a small regional one, they may not be in a position to offer an academic investigation. Are you are better placed to contact them? I don't live in Ukraine, though I could message them via FB. --Very trivial (talk) 22:58, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Most likely previously published on Facebook: FBMD code seen at the metadata. Proof of identity verification of the true copyright holder (the photographer) via email correspondence is required for images previously published on social media so to confirm if the uploader is indeed the photographer (the copyright holder) of this image and that the photographer (the copyright owner) has applied the license as indicated, as there have been numerous cases on Wiki before (and up to now) that the uploaders just grabbed images from Facebook or other social media sites. For email template, see COM:VRTS#Email message template for release of rights to a file. Better still, have the original overwrite this FB-derived image, if the image is truly self-photographed work of the uploader. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 23:52, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
