SteveLLL[edit]

I need to update (overwrite) all road sign images in China that do not comply with the current standards after the new national standards are released.
@SteveLLL: If the new design is substantially different, you'd need to upload them as new files per Commons:Overwriting existing files. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 08:48, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The difference in the new standard is not significant, mainly due to the use of new fonts. On the other hand, these files are named in a specific format for template calls, and there is reason to think that these files need to be updated. Some of the existing documents comply with current standards, some use old standards, and some do not comply with any standards due to user deviations. There are so many of them (1k+) that it would be impractical to rename and change the template for every file that doesn't meet the standards. SteveLLL (talk) 16:40, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Old signs that have been used should be renamed if necessary, as the existing naming convention does not contain any time information.—— SteveLLL (talk) 07:48, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For national , provincial , county and township highways that only contain numbers and will only change according to sign standards, I will rename the file and change the template that calls it after the upload is completed. But for expressway signs that contain textual additional information and may change over time, I would replace the file to keep it current, since the newest sign cannot be determined by a priori naming rules. SteveLLL (talk) 08:15, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is clearly stated in the description of w:zh:Template:China_Expwy_Name page that the producer needs to produce the sign image according to the GB5768.2 standard. I think replacing images that don't meet the standards is the way to go. SteveLLL (talk) 11:59, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

SuperSkaterDude45[edit]

I've been uploading images since 2021 and have around 1,156 edits as of writing this. I'm requesting auto patrol rights to upload either higher quality or full resolution historical images that were uploaded by abandoned accounts at Commons. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 11:26, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How do you explain the very high number of photos uploaded by you they are now deleted? GPSLeo (talk) 15:43, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@GPSLeo: Two of them (File:Peter Osgood 1970.jpg and File:West Germany vs Morocco 1970.jpg currently have no known authors but were deleted regardless of that. File:Héctor Pulido.jpg was deleted as a different image under the same name was uploaded by Cementero (despite no known authors nor publication being cited in a reverse image search for my own upload) while File:Celia Cruz 1971.jpg is actually in the public-domain per {{PD-Peru-photo}} although the undeletion request was unusually inactive. A majority of the others that were actually deleted primarily revolved around images relating to football where the links I had found them didn't give explicit authorship until their deletion requests. Regardless as of writing this, there are currently 11 images uploaded by me that were deleted in contrast to the nearly 1,000 other images I have uploaded that have remained here. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 03:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Even if the photograph in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Peter Osgood 1970.jpg didn't have a known author, it's still very likely under copyright as a British photograph, and therefore also still under copyright in the United States. We delete files when the copyright status is uncertain under COM:PCP. You as the uploader have the burden of showing that they are public domain or freely licensed. COM:EVID. Abzeronow (talk) 16:28, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Abzeronow: Pretty sure anonymous works are exactly in-line with {{PD-Mexico}} given no newspaper publication was cited either with the only known information being its date. Either way, that isn't really the main point for this request. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 06:41, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

RuzDD[edit]

While i am not very experienced on there, i made more than 800 edits on the trwiki and i know the importance of copyrights. I am also a white list (it is nearly smilar to autopatrol) on the trwiki for a long time. I want this right to be able to upload MP3's, and i have good reasons to want that. My reasons can be found at the history tab of the help desk. Thank you. RuzDD (talk) 14:26, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Right, that would be current section COM:HD#MP3 Uploading.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:42, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This topic does not contain my reasons to upload MP3's, and they can be found at the history, but this link also may be useful. Thank you. RuzDD (talk) 18:00, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not done at this time. User needs more experience editing here. Abzeronow (talk) 20:25, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So, edits in other wikis does not count, right? Anyway, how can i be able to upload MP3's in non-direct ways (if my MP3's have to be patrolled in some way it will not make me feel bad)? Answer is late because i cannot get notifications from some pages while they are in my watchist (including this). RuzDD (talk) 18:39, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Are there any way to upload MP3's with another user's file-specific permission, or modifying this abusefilter to allow MP3's with a version of 2-2.5 (easy-to-find popular MP3's are tend to use version 1) or allow uploading MP3's but require a patroller check to make them available to public? RuzDD (talk) 18:44, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you want changes made to the MP3 policy, you can start a discussion at COM:VPP. Requiring autopatrol is easier because generally autopatrolled users have enough experience to know which mp3s can be uploaded (pre-1924 sound recordings and post-1972 sound recordings that are explicitly freely licensed). I would be happy to revisit a request for you to have the autopatrol right in three to six months. Abzeronow (talk) 18:50, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks but i can not found a Commons:MP3 policy (it's red)? RuzDD (talk) 18:54, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Abzeronow Where is the MP3 policy? Can you write an internal link? RuzDD (talk) 12:49, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not exactly sure if we have an internal link that spells out the MP3 policy @GPSLeo: @King of Hearts: Abzeronow (talk) 16:51, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Havsjö[edit]

I correct errors and the size of svg files. Just now I was trying to adjust the colour hue of File:Flag of March of Verona and Aquileia.svg to closer match other Holy Roman Empire flags, as well as to remove the transparent gaps in the edges when I discorved I need this new permission Thank you. Havsjö (talk) 14:37, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Seeing a copyvio from November 2023 is a little concerning to me, and your overwrite of File:Adrian von Renteln.jpg should have been done as a new file. Abzeronow (talk) 17:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But that von Renteln file is literally the same photo --Havsjö (talk) 19:29, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The tone is different (sepia vs black and white) and your version shows more of the shoulders and chest. The color change alone should have had it as a different file. Abzeronow (talk) 20:09, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Supermiiu[edit]

While I'm a relatively new user on Wikimedia, I'm a somewhat skilled vector artist interested in adding and fixing vectorial art related to vexillology and heraldry (you can see some of my work in my profile). I've already seen many files with mistakes in their design, such as a missing white background being transparent (for example, File:Flag_MRNS.svg) or other mistakes in general, and when I tried to fix them, I found out I needed the autopatrol rights in order to make these changes, so I tried to apply for this in order for me to fix those problems. . Thank you. Supermiiu (talk) 18:46, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd be willing to grant the rights in three to six months once you get some more edits and experience on the site. In the meantime, you can make requests at COM:OWR Abzeronow (talk) 17:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Artoria2e5[edit]

Registered since 2012. I've uploaded a few images in the past, but these days I just want to fix up some exposure and color balance on non-historical images using GIMP and G'MIC. For that I believe overwrite rights are justified. Thank you. Artoria2e5 contribs 05:10, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You should not overwrite photos like on File:Chicken parm at a diner.jpg unless the original author agreed with it. GPSLeo (talk) 09:42, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@GPSLeo: There were no pixels added artificially and the change should fall into the scope of "minor and uncontroversial color correction, noise reduction, perspective correction, etc." -- there's a human expectation of how a tomato-based sauce should look like under natural lighting and the camera is not producing it. I suppose I can rope Oknazevad in and ask for forgiveness? Artoria2e5 contribs 03:19, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You do not know if the warm white balance was on purpose and editing existing JPG files always results in some more noise and loss due to compression. If the user is still active you should ask if you can overwrite the file or just upload as a new file. GPSLeo (talk) 12:59, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd rather the file not be altered. I see no issues with the color of the sauce. It is correct for the actual way the sauce looks, suitably red. Not orange, as in the improper correction, which also makes the cheese too yellow. Yes, I should have been asked, because there is no issue with the original colors. I should know, I ate that very chicken parm immediately after the image was taken. oknazevad (talk) 02:04, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tom5551[edit]

Hello, I'am registered since 2011. A lot of editions and uploading photos about history and art, but these days I just want to fix up some exposure, contrast and color balance of old Wikipedia images for example from WW2 using my graphic software and I want to replace a lot of miniature photos to large ones in higher quality. For that I believe overwrite rights are justified. Thank you. Tom5551 (talk) 08:07, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Changes to historic photos like File:Potsdam conference 1945-8.jpg or File:Wrzesien1939(HistoriaPolski str.371).jpg need to be uploaded as new files. GPSLeo (talk) 09:39, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Zanahary[edit]

Hello, I am interested in overwriting public-domain images of art with higher resolution, particularly from large collections like Google Arts & Culture and The Brooklyn Museum (a lot of whose files on Commons are not in the highest resolution available from the collections). Hello. I have been updating the File:Legality of euthanasia.svg, adding as sources all the laws of every country where it is allowed. I need to continue doing so in this file and other related ones. In this case, as yesterday Ecuador legalized active voluntary euthanasia. Thanks. Vgonzalez630 (talk) 17:22, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I need to update a few images of dinosaurs someone else made. I edited them to be more accurate, but the changes are not too drastic so as to require them to be uploaded separately. Thank you. Miracusaurs (talk) 15:08, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Looking to move some longer-term efforts to bot after some testing in AWB and working on harder fringe cases to sort out some processes for something more bot-oriented. Thank you. Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 09:18, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Drogosław[edit]

I would like to re-license my photographs of technical devices from CC-by-SA to more lenient CC-by. (The “SA” part does not really change anything (what derivative works can be made of such photos?) and is impossible to enforce in practice.) I was using AWB for a while at Wikia (now Fandom) in 2013. Throughout the years, I've been using PyWikiBot (called PyWikipedia back when I started) and my own custom scripts. Drogosław (talk) 13:06, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Drogosław, the easiest way to do that would probably be to use Help:VisualFileChange.js with the custom replace option. Since it can take a while for requests for rights to get processed (the admins are stretched very thin overall and only a few work in this area), I'd recommend starting there. פעמי-עליון[edit]

I would like to make repeated edits (like adding Category:Coins of Masinissa to more than 300 files with intitle:"Massinissa" intitle:"Monnaie" that are not in the category) easier. Sometimes I see such edit in give up due to the number of sisyphean edits it demands. Thank you, פעמי-עליון (talk) 14:46, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cmao20[edit]

One of the main things I do on Commons is look for good overlooked material to nominate at FPC and in this process I have often put in renaming requests for files that have meaningless or overly poetic/insufficiently descriptive names, e.g. here, here, and here. I have never had a rename request declined and believe that I have demonstrated a good understanding of the policy. I am a user in good standing with more than 8000 edits and believe that I can be trusted with this right. It would save other filemovers time and effort in reviewing requests that I have made. Enhancing999[edit]

I'm trying to fix the upload link on de:Template:WLPA-CH-Zeile, but the campaign specified there relates to another field. After reading through some of the documentation, I concluded it may be easier to define a separate one. I try to figure out if I can come up with something we may want to us. Thank you. Enhancing999 (talk) 16:43, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In the meantime, I fixed the categorization included in the template. It must have been broken when the template was copied over from another field. The campaign part still needs to be improved .. if someone else wants to do it, please do. Enhancing999 (talk) 16:15, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
