  • It should meet the requirements for speedy deletion.
  • Usually placed at the top of the item.

Multilingual templates[edit]

Should such templates be multilingual? For example:

This page is a candidate for speedy deletion. If you disagree with its speedy deletion, please explain this on its talk page.

Or would this end up with too many languages showing on the same page? Should the language of the template match the language in the page being deleted? For example, should someone who speaks Portuguese check pages with {{lixo}} on them, and people who speak English only check ones with {{delete}} on them? This makes some sense since people not speaking Portuguese would not know whether the page really was patent nonsense. Angela 16:17, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

This seems like an unnecessary duplicate to me. Why not just put them in CAT:CSD???? How is that confusing? Instead we add another layer. Then CAT:CSD is empty for no reason. pfctdayelise (translate?) 07:34, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can't translate this SpeedyDelete Template?[edit]

Dear Administrators,
(If this offer is NOT a right thing, never mind.)

Is it OK to translate this SpeedyDelete Template into our own native language? At this moment, currently ONLY English page is available for this template, but it would NOT be so effective for us.

The Master Template would be fine with ONLY English page and controled under English language. Refering to "copyright tags" (Master:{{PD-self}} and Translated:{{PD-self/ja}}), it would be much better if this template could be also provided in multi-languages.

What do you think?

If I can get your permission, I will start to prepare.

--SantaClaus 15:01, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think it is a good idea, please do go ahead with preparations. I suggest that the template in another language should always contain the current English text as well, so that most admins will recognize it. But I can make no promise, maybe it turns out that your suggestion isn't possible for some reason. / Fred Chess 16:33, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks, Fred Chess. OK, then I will start the preparation. YES, I do understand. If some reasons come up and if it might turn out to be taken back, it would be OK for me. --SantaClaus 08:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

typo[edit]

please change {{SpeedyDelete|specify a reason}} to {{Speedydelete|specify a reason}} with a small d. Template:SpeedyDelete don't exist. thx. --BLueFiSH 00:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Badname -> Bad name[edit]

Add reason to top red section of box?[edit]

{{editprotected}}

I think it would be better if the reason for the speedy deletion (if specified as a custom reason) comes up in the top red section of the box like all the other deletion messages. Vipersnake151 23:00, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yea, but the text inside the template comes from Template:Speedy delete text. / Fred J (talk) 21:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done Just had to pass the reason as a variable to the text template like other templates do. MECUtalk 16:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This template not work[edit]

this code:

{{#if:{{{1|}}}|
'''Reason for deletion request:'''

<span class="speedy_reason">{{{1}}}</span>
}}

Not work, this template not show the Reason for deletion request, and can problems. Shooke 15:24, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This is now obsolete as I changed how it is done per the above request. MECUtalk 16:41, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

text change in template[edit]

Currently, the template displays this:

{{copyvio|reason or source}} for obvious copyright violations

That's incorrect, as the actual text that needs to be used is {{copyvio|1=reason or source}}

Please correct this. Cheers! Esrever (klaT) 21:34, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's already correct because the first parameter ({{{1}}}) does not require 1= at the front of it when you use it. But only when there is no equal sign in the URL. It's a good idea to fix it to make it compatible with the URL as well --Harley Hartwell (talk) 12:58, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reason field is brroken[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

Someone please revert this edit [1]. It's disrupting the reason field in this template. Nat (talk) 03:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The problem seems to come from the removal of '''The given reason is:''' ''{{{reason|{{{1|No reason given.}}}}}}'' on this edit of Template:Speedydelete/en. Teofilo (talk) 10:36, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have edited Template:Speedydelete/en and it seems to be OK now. I remove {{Editprotected}}. Teofilo (talk) 10:46, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

typo[edit]

On the 4th listitem of the speedy deletion template, it says "In the case of fair use images, notify the uploder with:" I think it should be uploader. -- Soap (talk) 05:03, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Layout i18n[edit]

I've added a usage-label parameter to allow Click here to show further instructions to be translated. As there are almost no translations yet, I've made it non-required for a while (with English fallback). Wizardist (talk) 09:48, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Click here[edit]

I want "Click here to show further instructions" in Malayalam :). {{LangSwitch}} in layout or a new parameter in translation templates, which is better?--Praveen:talk 16:39, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There already is a parameter for that, usage-label. --Mormegil (talk) 20:26, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

:) added--Praveen:talk 01:35, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Diff[edit]

The administrator is asked to check the history and there is also a link to the last change. But often the last change is adding the template, the possible vandalism leading to the addition of the template is the change before that, isn't it? --LPfi (talk) 11:30, 29 March 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fix link[edit]

{{Editprotected}} The link on the template titled "criteria for speedy deletion" should point to Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion or then the title should be changed to match the current link. Palosirkka (talk) 11:17, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Subpages are semiprotected, not fullprotected. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:27, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

By and with in final sentence of template: grammar error[edit]

{{Edit request}} The word "by" in the final sentence, "...replace this tag by a regular deletion request", should be replaced with a "with" (i.e., "...with a regular deletion request"). That's all. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 13:14, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hide the note if `category` is set[edit]

{{Edit request}} This template includes a note instructing editors to use a more specific deletion template. However, {{Speedydelete}} is used as the base for some more-specific templates (such as {{Fair use}} and {{Standard YouTube License}}; see also Invalid license tags), and in those cases, this note doesn't make sense. The one thing all those templates have in common is that they set the category parameter to override the default category of Other speedy deletions. I think {{Speedydelete/layout}} should be updated to hide the note if the category parameter is set. –IagoQnsi (talk) 22:33, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please be specific on what you want changed. 1989 (talk) 19:59, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The request is reasonable, but the template code is complicated. Thus the edit request template might have to be removed, but please take a look, you who understand the speedy template. –LPfi (talk) 12:05, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Add NOINDEX[edit]

{{Edit request}} To the end of the first line of the template, add:

{{NOINDEX}}

This will stop an image from being spidered and indexed by search engines in the time between it being flagged and either deleted or unflagged, the same as happens currently on Wikipedia when an article is flagged for speedy deletion.

I suggested it at Commons:Village_pump/Proposals/Archive/2022/03#Add_noindex_to_speedy_deletion_templates last month, the post just got two comments that it was "reasonable", the first also asking if Google would know to remove such images (I believe it would), the second descending into free association. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:36, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

✓ Done in Special:Diff/652441060. --TKsdik8900 (talk) 08:45, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks. Now that that's in, though, it doesn't seem to be working as I expected it to: I'm not seeing a "noindex" meta tag on a newly-speedied file page, despite it being within the includeonly tag and not nested inside anything else. Does anyone know why that is? --Lord Belbury (talk) 08:53, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Twinkle markup[edit]

@Mdaniels5757: Is it really necessary to duplicate the reason? Couldn’t it be added only once, in an HTML element that has id="delete-reason" but doesn’t have style="display:none"? (By the way, I’d use a <div> rather than a <span>, who knows if the reason is really a single line of text.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 11:08, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Tacsipacsi I did it that way because it's how it was on enwiki; but your way is probably better if it works. I'll try it out. Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 16:04, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
