I am Andy Mabbett. I live in Birmingham, England. I am Wikimedian in Residence with ORCID. You can find more about me on my primary user page on the English Wikipedia (which includes my declaration of interests); and my website: http://pigsonthewing.org.uk
See where my images are used on Wikimedia projects (may be slow to load); some statistical data about my images is available; also here; as are recent changes to my images. I've started to categorise my images that are used elsewhere and I keep some bookmarks of external sites using my images. Organisations who have used them include:
- ITV
- Society of Wildlife Artists
- Nursing Times
- Time Out
- The Leverhulme Trust
- Australian Broadcasting Corporation
- GlassDoor
- Radio Prague International
- The Art Newspaper
- the National Academy of Sciences
- Imperial College London
- Church Times
- British Wildlife magazine (print, not online)
I have alternative account, User:PigsOTWing, used in training sessions.
Attribution[edit]
If you use my images outside Wikimedia projects, I request a credit, thus:
- Online
- In print
with the former example linking to the relevant image page on Commons, my website, and the relevant licence, each with no rel="nofollow" attribute.
Please double-check the spelling of my name, and make sure you have substituted (and link to) the appropriate licence.
Failure to give attribution without prior agreement voids any CC-BY licence.
File names[edit]
I am adopting a file name format along the lines of:
Object - YYYY-MM-DD - Andy Mabbett - nn
where "nn" is an ordinal for series.
Web for all[edit]
I believe strongly in adherence to web standards, making web pages as accessible as possible, to everyone, and that it's important to communicate using the simplest language necessary, to convey ideas clearly.
Projects[edit]
I founded Wikipedia Project Microformats and have added microformats to Wikimedia Commons templates, and those on other Wikimedia projects.
I founded the Voice Intro Project (#WikiVIP), asking people who are the subject of a Wikipedia article to supply a short recording of their spoken voice.
I work with organisations to encourage them to open licence their media. Among my notable successes have been:
- West Midlands Police
- Birmingham City Council
- The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists
- Staffordshire Archives and Heritage Service
- Walsall Labour Party
- The BBC
- South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue
- Carl Zeiss Microscopy
