Image Tagging Image:Founders-of-AA.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Founders-of-AA.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Image Tagging Image:Usaf-laser.jpg[edit]
I've tagged Image:Usaf-laser.jpg as without a source because there's no direct link to a USAF web site. The original file on wikipedia was unlicensed until it was labelled as USAF by an anonymous IP, who did not appear to have any input to the image before then. File migration from GFDL to CC-BY-SA-3.0[edit]
Hi, you may not be aware that "In accordance with the Licensing update and associated WMF Board Resolution, Wikimedia will be exercising its rights under GFDL 1.3 to dual license existing GFDL content — text and images — under CC-BY-SA 3.0 (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0) starting June 15th, 2009."^.
- Basically files with GFDL1.2 with the "and later versions" licenses are now available under GFDL 1.3 which allows us to migrate them to a CC-BY-SA-3.0 license. I note that a file you have uploaded File:FireExtinguisherABC.jpg has the {{Cc-by-nc-sa-2.0-dual}} template which suggests to me that you may not want to expand to the more open CC-BY-SA-3.0 license.
- I urge you to make this file more widely usable by adding a more general license yourself. But understand that this may not be possible (eg if the original is not your own work). If you are happy with the 'migration' of the license you can either widen the terms yourself or do nothing and it will be done by a bot anyway.
- The Commons community has recognised that some people may want or need to opt-out of this 'migration' - to do so: add the text "migration=opt-out" to the license template eg {{GFDL|migration=opt-out}} or {{Cc-by-nc-sa-2.0-dual|migration=opt-out}}
- I hope that this is of some use to you, don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions (although I'm not actually an expert of licensing questions :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 02:16, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Please help replace this outdated license[edit]
Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Orange revolution kyiv.jpg[edit]
This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Orange revolution kyiv.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:Orange revolution kyiv.jpg]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Copyright status: File:PL Teatr Wspolczesny - entrance.jpg[edit]
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:PL Teatr Wspolczesny - entrance.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Lesbijki.jpg[edit]
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Lesbijki.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Crop not showing the person you named it after[edit]
Hi Kocio, in this diff [1] you add the info that the cropped file is showing Sara Zyskind. In fact it is showing an unidentified girl. The person who added the "Crop for Wikidata template" maybe added it just based on the usage (in two wikis) in the article of Sara Zyskind (though in both it is clear stated - as in the file description - that the name of the girl is not known). Please rename or delete the file. I'll delete it in the Wikidata-Item, before this association is more spreaded by Wikidata/Wikipedia. Mirer (talk) 20:57, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi,
- her name was noted in the crop template, so I just followed it. -- Kocio (talk) 21:32, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
